4 Ways to Make Radiant Orchid – Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year Work For You
Incorporating purple and pink hues into home decor can strike fear into the hearts of many. Too bold? Too girly? Too bright? Too daring? But, with the announcement of Pantone’s Color of the Year – Radiant Orchid, everyone wants to know how to make this trendy color work for them. Either in small or large doses – the warm purple with undertones of pink and fushia can work in almost any home. Here we look at four ways to incorporate Radiant Orchid, or any accent color, into your space.
1. Start small with accent pieces. If you aren’t sure about a color or are afraid it might overwhelm your space, try incorporating it in accent pieces that can be easily and inexpensively replaced. Pillows, picture frames, other decorative accessories, even floral arrangements, add color to a space but can be easily replaced if you get bored or want to try something new.
2. Large colorful art. If you aren’t quite ready to commit to a bold, bright wall color – consider oversized artwork that gives the illusion of wide swathes of color without the commitment. Consider art that is made up of multiple pieces or a large work that can span an entire wall.
3. Just paint it. If you’re feeling adventurous- or just plain love the color- pick up your rollers and brushes and dive right in. You can start with an accent wall or go bold and change the whole look of your room.
4. Don’t forget the furniture. Furniture in your accent color can bring life and excitement to an otherwise neutral and potentially boring space. If a pop of bold color is a little overwhelming, try a patterned piece or a smaller accent chair or ottoman.
