A simple way of updating a room is to add ‘pops’ of color. If you watch HGTV or home decorating shows, you’ve probably heard this term before. If not, it simply means to use color in concentrated areas instead of all over. It’s particularly useful when you just want a little bit of bold color. Like turquoise or orange—you may not be ready to paint a whole room with them, but a few well-placed accessories in these shades can give you a ‘pop’ of color.

More ways to add a ‘pop’ of color include layering a colorful throw on the side of a chair or adding new accent pillows to your sofa. A pair of ottomans in a bold color, placed in front of the fireplace or cocktail table, makes a colorful statement. You can even change out your lamps or add a few brightly hued accessories to liven up
a room.

And don’t forget to look down. If you have a largely solid, neutral carpeting or flooring, think about adding a
colorful rug. Choose a color or pattern that will tie all the elements in the room together.

The best part about ‘pops’ of color is that they’re simple to update. If you eventually get tired of a color or you’re ready to explore another, they’re items that are easy to replace.
