Shalimar Garden-Light Green Hand-knotted on looms located in the ancient city of Jaipur, India, this wool carpet and the rugs from this area were an inspiration to William Morris and other noted Arts and Crafts leaders in their design of textiles and wallpapers. This design is from a carpet woven during the reign of Jahangir (r.1605-27). The fineness of the weave on such a classical Indian piece gives it an intricacy and life-like quality not often found on knotted carpets. The tomb of Jahangir is located near Shalimar Gardens in Lahore Pakistan. These beautiful gardens surrounding the magnificent tomb are a tribute to a man who was part of the renaissance of art and literature during his reign as Mughal King.
